Les Otten and other industry professionals recently visited with Ski Area Management Magazine, sharing thoughts on The Balsams present and future.

“I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think it would come to pass,” says Otten of the Balsams plans. “I’m guardedly optimistic that we’ll have everything in place in the near future to start. A lot of the financing is in place. There are check marks on most of the boxes…”

BALSAMS DEVELOPERS COMMENT ON NEXT MOVES, WITH MAJOR MILESTONES REACHED

“After the county planning board approved the site plan application for the ski area and the commissioners and delegation approved the creation of the Balsams Resort Redevelopment District in recent weeks, developers say the project has taken ‘a good step forward’ but that there is still work to be done.

‘We are very pleased with the last several months of work with the county,’ said spokesman Scott Tranchemontagne. ‘Both the ski area site plan approval and the creation of the tax assessment district required a lot of work by the planning board, county administrator, commissioners, delegation and The Balsams team. Everyone has worked diligently and collaboratively to address questions, provide information and ultimately get these key pieces across the finish line’…”

BALSAMS SKI PLAN GIVEN CONDITIONAL APPROVAL BY BOARD

“The latest approval has been received for the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel re-development project in Dixville Notch.

At a Coos County Planning Board meeting held on March 15, the planning board voted to approve the site plan for the ski area expansion, with conditions. This expansion is part of the phase one portion of the major re-development project. It was explained at the planning board meeting that this approval was the last ‘big’ approval needed; there are still a few more approvals that will need to go before the planning board…”

BALSAMS RECEIVES PLANNING BOARD APPROVAL FOR SKI AREA SITE PLAN

“After several meetings over the past five months, the Coos County planning board has given conditional approval to Dixville Capital’s site plan application for the expansion of the Balsams Ski Area in Dixville…

…The plan includes seven new lifts and about 250 acres of ski terrain, along with a gondola and ski-back bridge that cross over Route 26. The new Lake Gloriette House will serve as a base for the ski area, and skiers will reach the slopes from and return to that location. There is a plan to allow for shuttles to transport guests if the ski-back bridge is not in place when the ski area opens…”
